'Carolers are set to sing, bells ready to ring, toy soldiers have their marching orders, and the horse-drawn carriages are dolled up to roll out once again on Ridgefield's Main Street, all a-sparkle with lights.

Here's a sneak peek copied from the Ridgefield Press, our local paper: Speaking of the Holiday Stroll, it's tomorrow, and it's one of my favorite local events of the year. That just wouldn't be our salty New England way. I heard they stopped in for ice cream at the local candy store, Deborah Anne's, but it's unlikely anyone bothered them. Last year at the Christmas stroll, Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively visited from nearby Bedford, strolling with the rest of the villagers. I have seen many celebrities in person while dining at one of the village restaurants – Keith Richards several times, Harvey Fierstein, Mary from Peter, Paul and Mary. Ridgefield has long been a haven for artists and writers, once the home of Eugene O'Neil, Howard Fast, Henry Luce, Clare Booth Luce, and my personal favorite, author of Where the Wild Things Are, Maurice Sendak. For such a small community, we have an impressive modern art museum, The Aldrich, and a theater that attracts decent talent – Rick Springfield, John Tesh, 10,000 Maniacs, Taylor Dane and the Cowboy Junkies are all coming soon. Modern-day Ridgefield has leafy parks and a lovely public golf course, more churches than private clubs, several national historic sites, dance conservatories and good public schools. People have called Ridgefield home for over 300 years and it boasts some impressive American history – once upon a time in a Revolutionary war skirmish, Benedict Arnold's horse was shot out from under him (this was before all of that traitorous unpleasantness) and in the 18th century tavern that still stands on Main Street today, there is a British cannonball lodged in the wall. Situated at the foothills of the Berkshires, our town is about an hour from New York City, about three hours from Boston, and claims no major highway nor train line, though 25,000 people call it home. I live in a small New England town in Connecticut on the border of New York State.
