The sky gets more and more cloudy and begins to illuminate with some weird shades of purple, periwinkle, and charcoal gray. Once she reaches the top of the rock rising out of the green earth, she catches her breath for a moment while staring up into the purple gray clouds. After she begins to climb, struggling up the rock growing in height and width and depth, she can hear heavy breathing coming from behind her. Atliy surmises, it looks as if a ledge of a mountainous domain is forming. Once her house is within thirty-five yards, she arrives at a five foot tall gray rock. Finally, she can see her backyard some fifty yards away. Then others begin to yell “Tornado!!!”Ītliy can feel her heart pounding as she runs forth in a continuous race for home. A gray dusting wind blows by knocking people over in its path. She knows that the changing land forms cannot possibly resemble that of an earthquake. “AAH!” says a kid as he almost falls over on the ever-changing expanse.īut Atliy is too wise. Atliy can hear screaming and remarks of confusion in the air. Chaos bursts forth as people scatter in all directions over the quickly changing landscape. And then the sight of her house vanishes. Suddenly, it appears as if her home is only a block or two away. Clax yells out, “I'm afraid you'll all have to run home now! As you can tell, all electronics are dead!”Īs Atliy looks straight ahead, she notices the land changing. Lamps, lights, educational televisions, computers, and several other learning tools are quickly destroyed.Ītliy and Augey finally make it out of the expensive mess left behind in the now hazardous building. As they rush to the back exit that leads to the back field, Atliy, as well as many others, see flashes as all types of electrical equipment short circuit. Atliy, Augey, and the rest of their English class jet manically down the nearest stairwell approximately twenty yards from their empty classroom. The halls are filled with students, teachers, and staff all fleeing to the nearest exit. Clax retrieves her purse off the desk and waits anxiously for all the kids to exit then locks the door behind them. Clax orders in a loud cumbersome voice.Īll the students quickly fetch their belongings that they have in the classroom. As this happens there is a “huh!” and another “huh!” People can hear electrical shortages echo all over the building. “School has been canceled for the day,” an ominous voice reads.
